As you may know by now, Lukas Graham have come a long way since their humble beginnings uploading homemade music videos to YouTube. We think this has been highlighted even more recently, thanks to one of their recent shows.
The Capital Summertime Ball is a yearly event that takes place at Wembley Stadium in London. Hosted by Capital Radio, the event sees some of the world’s biggest performers play to 90,000 adoring fans – everyone from Katy Perry, to Mark Ronson, to The Who have played in the past.
This year, Lukas Graham were included in the line-up. Although the boys have played some pretty big gigs in the past, we’re sure that you’ll agree that playing in the largest stadium in the UK is a pretty big deal.
Opening with the infamous ‘7 Years’, the band were touched by having the majority of the crowd sing every lyric back to them – with Graham himself recording the moment on his camera. Lukas thanked fans for changing his and his band mate’s lives – “I went from wearing second-hand clothes and eating leftovers to performing here at Wembley!” How nice is that?!
‘Mama Said’ had the full crowd dancing, before the band finished a short set with a cover of Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’, backed by a full brass band. We like to think that it was better than the original, but, of course, we would be biased.
Even though the band were only the third act of the day, they had thousands of people singing, dancing, and smiling – we reckon that’s an achievement.
We can’t say when the boys will be back in the UK again, but one thing we can guarantee is that we’ll be the first people to know.
